Best Preparation Strategy For IIT JAM Physics

Best Preparation Strategy for IIT JAM Physics

IIT is a dream college for many students across India. Going into IIT and study for higher education/research and placement purposes are just another level of fantasy and it's dream or goal for many students.

There are two possible ways to get into IIT depending on which course or degree you would complete in IIT.
For BTech degree, you have to crack both jee main and JEE advance exams.
For MSc degree, you have to crack IIT JAM exam.
IIT JAM exam is conducted for graduated students and JEE is conducted for intermediate students.

I will give you the most powerful methodology of preparation for IIT jam physics exam along with resources, list of books and guidance for self study. You can crack IIT jam just by self study if you are dedicated and inspired to get into IIT even if you have problem of money in purchasing courses or subscription. Trust me nothing is impossible when you have enough time for preparation and have consistency and dare to work hard .

I am myself a proof that any student who are hard working and consistent can crack IIT jam with only self study and without investing any money. I got AIR 385 in IIT jam physics 2024 just by self study and not purchasing any subscription or any test series.

I will share my experience and my mistakes which I made during my preparation, you can definitely get a better rank than mine if you eliminate the mistakes i did .

Introduction:
Preparing for IIT jam physics is not an easy task! You have to work hard and be consistent till your results. The information I am providing is quite relevant to your preparation and you should follow my strategy. Let's go!

Syllabus for IIT jam physics:

Syllabus is one of the most important information about any competitive exams. You must be frequently reading the syllabus according to your study. Look at the jam physics' syllabus here :

How to study BSc Physics Syllabus for IIT jam physics?

In Bsc physics course, most of the topics are exactly same in those of jam physics syllabus,so you must study them eagerly.
Some of the following topics are same in IIT jam physics and BSC physics syllabi;
1.Rigid Body Dynamics
2. Angular momentum conservation
3. Transistors (BJT)
4. Schrodinger equation and its applications
5. Modern physics
6. PN junction diodes
and so on.
So while studying your Bsc physics course, you must focus on common topics by reading the syllabus of your physics honours and IIT jam physics.

List of books for IIT jam physics:

These are some of the most important books that you should study in order to get good results in IIT jam. I have listed them based on my experience through my preparation strategy and experiences from other resources. Remember that there are many different books available for the same topic but I have listed only those books which are enough for your preparation whether you aspire to become a researcher or any physics professional. The main purpose is to give you the best and the easiest way of cracking the jam exam.

1. Mathematical methods:
Mathematical physics by H.K. Das

2. Mechanics and general properties of matter:

HC Verma volume 1 for basics
Mechanics by DS Mathur
Classical mechanics by J.C. Upadhyay

3. Waves ,oscillation and optics:

NCERT 12th physics for basics
Textbook of Optics by a chand publication

4. Electricity and magnetism:

Introduction to electrodynamics by Griffiths
HC Verma volume 2 for basics

5. Kinetic theory and thermodynamics:

HC Verma volume 2 for basics

Thermal physics by Garg bansal and Ghosh

6. Modern physics:

HC Verma volume 2 for basics ,
Concept of modern physics by arther beiser ,
For quantum mechanics, quantum mechanics by zetilli and by Griffiths are enough for any entrance exam.

7. Electronics and solid state physics:

*HC Verma volume 2 for basics of semiconductor and diodes

*Solid state physics by S.O. Pillai
Or

*Solid state physics by kettle

5. List of YouTube channels for jam physics:

1. IIT jam unacademy
2. PW IIT jam/ csir net
3. Physics adhyayan

6. List of websites for jam physics:

1. Physics by fiziks
2. scientificirfan.blogspot.com
3. Textbook.com
All these websites provide free study materials and solved pyq for jam, jest, gate, net, ect.
So you must use them efficiently.
7. List of telegram channels for jam physics:

1. sophysics9911
2. Fiziks zone

8. Managing college studies and jam preparation:

Try to do homework for college first and then try to save at least 5-6 hours for jam preparation everyday. On Sunday, you should not invest time in any bad purposes, always try to give more time to jam preparation than that for college studies.

9. Best routine for jam preparation:

Based on my experience, studying everyday at least 6 hours for jam preparation is more than enough no matter you are regular student of college or you are a dropper. Here is the routine you can follow:

Morning ( 6 to 8 am ) : 1 hour for revision and 1 hour for learning new concepts .

Afternoon (1 to 3 pm) : 1 hour for numerical problems from books and 1 hour for pyq practice.

Night (7 to 9 pm) : 1 hour for learning new concepts and 1 hour for revision

You can change the timings of morning or night or afternoon but you must give 6 hours effectively and you should follow the routine that I have listed above.

10. Mistakes to avoid:

I did some mistakes in self-preperation,if I had avoided these mistakes i would have gotten rank under 200. So please avoid these following mistakes:

A. Finish at least 90% syllabus at least one month before the exam date.

B. Purchase any online test series at least 6 months before the exam date.

** I didn't buy any online test series and that was my biggest mistake**

C. You daily give two hours of revision.

** I was quite irregular in my routine and that was my big mistake**.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog.
Best of luck for your preparation!
